President Obama pointed out to us last week that veterans in combat zones pay NO federal income taxes. In Romney's world, they are dependent, filthy beggars, lacking self-sufficiency. Service Connected Disabled Veterans pay no property taxes and rely on the government for approximately $40,000 per year in compensation and all medical benefits provided, some with small co-payments.
Comments such as the 47% or the "legitimate rape" remark by Akin are desperate attempts to please the few billionaires and right-wingers, to get their money. When we lose our integrity due to our actions and/or statements, like the "slut shaming" of Obama's dead mother, there is a price to pay-the American public is not forgiving of blatant attacks that serve no purpose other than obscene fund-raising and the by-product, alienating most everyone in the process. The high road in politics is to beg for small donors, vigorously participate in voter registration and beg for people to vote, because every vote is important, especially in THIS presidential election. I feel that Obama has shown dramatic initiative in these areas.
Sorry doesn't cut it when you say or do something that is unforgiveable. Most of us have been trained to respect our roots-most of us can trace our families back to immigrants. This keeps the majority of people from being obscene criminals, because America has been on an upward path of securing equality for all. In the minority are people who are against Obama, simply because he is "part black." We, of all races, are racist to some degree, but most of us keep it in check and attempt to evolve into a more tolerant public.
As we go to the polls, we have to ask ourselves who is the person that most represents the well being and progress and health and welfare of the majority of Americans. For me, this person is President Obama.
