Expectations for the debate were low and with good reason. The ramblings by both candidates caused me to learn very little new facts about their intentions.
The expectation for Obama was that he would be presidential and have good temperament in respoinding to the questions and Romney. GRADE: PASS
The expectation for Romney was to be well prepared and to explain himself clearly. In the words of the Spin Room, he was theatrically aggressive. FAIL
Issues:
TAXES:
Romney lied about the $5 trillion tax cut at least twice, with no coherent esplanation as to why this is not true. Approximately 100 Million make less than the median wage of $50,000 and Romney doesn't seeem to care about them. He is all about he rich and middle class. Just a few days ago he said he wouldn't give much of a tax break to the middle class. Most of us believe he will give a $5 trillion tax break to the rich, including Obama, who is more believable than Rommey. FAIL
Obama explained his positions well and did not BLINK as much as Romney nor did he become childishly argumentative. His tax plan is more fair in terms of providing opportunity for the majority of Americans. PASS
MEDICARE AND OBAMA CARE:
Nancy Pelosi says that Romney's Medicare plan will affect seniors who are currently 65, rather than "54 or 55" and I believe her when she says their costs will go up dramatically. The voucher system wasn't explained to my liking as it focused on dissing Obama's plan. With the exception of small v large government, Romney agreed with many aspects of ObamaCare, as compared to Romney's health care in Massachusetts. FAIL
Obama explained his Medicare plan and that he was proud of ObamaCare. He is in favor of reducing provider costs and fraud in Medicare and will save $700 billion. ObamaCare is already in effect as to helping working poor have more access to Medicaid. ObamaCare has more potential to reach those in need than Romney small government/state controlled plans, e.g. Many states and communities including California are bankrupt. PASS
EDUCATION:
Romney bragged about the excellent school system in Massachusetts, however as a nation are schools are absolutely failing, AND half of our college graduates don't get jobs immediately. With no money to spend on education, due to huge tax cuts to the rich, Romney doesn't have enough resources in his plan to help education. FAIL
Obama is adamant about providing better funded education to as many people as possible, including those who want to got to college. He specifically mentioned hiring 100,000 more teachers and that our system of education is severely overcrowded and in need of federal dollars. PASS
ROLE OF GOVERNMENT:
Romney: Constitution, Declaration of Independence, blah blah blah. FAIL
Obama: Safety of all Americans; Opportunity for all Americans, federal government funding of critical issues such as infrastructure. PASS
CONCLUSION:
Romney is a demon for small government and $5 trillion in tax cuts- he lied about this and failed to explain how he is specifically going to do anything. The same old rhetoric.
Obama has led the country with outstanding milestones, is the leader of the majority of the American people and will include funding programs that help those most in need.
POLLS/WINNER: Rupert Murdoch's WSJ Poll shows a statistical dead heat between Romney and Obama. Rupert Murdoch's Fox News says that Romney WON the debate. I say he lied on two critical issues: taxes and Medicare.
